The Practice

An independent hand, available when it matters.

Chapungu Zimbabwe is an independent advisory practice that makes senior-level financial and operational expertise available to businesses on a retained, project or advisory basis without the overhead of a permanent executive hire.

The Chapungu (Bateleur Eagle) is a bird known across southern Africa for its precision, wide field of vision and ability to navigate difficult terrain. These qualities define the approach brought to every engagement.

Chapungu Zimbabwe is founded and led by Geoff Martin FCCA — a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant with 23 years' experience spanning professional audit, institutional finance, agribusiness and manufacturing across Zimbabwe, Zambia and the Channel Islands. The practice is currently in its founding phase, with aspirations to develop a broad platform for trade support and advisory services.

What's On Offer

Four areas of practice.

Each engagement is scoped to fit — whether that means a short-term project, a retained advisory relationship, or an embedded operational role. The work is hands-on, partner-accountable and outcome-focused.

01

Financial & Strategic Advisory

Capital structure, liquidity stewardship and long-range forecasting. Board-level reporting and logic; translating complexity into decisions. Trade finance origination and lender relationship management. Strategic input at moments of growth, pivot or capital allocation.

Operational Leadership

Finance function design, team recruitment and restructuring. KPI frameworks, management information system reviews, or data decks. Process re-engineering across finance, HR, compliance and administration. Identifying and embedding the right systems so that a business can run without its founder locked at the coalface.

Geoff Martin

Geoff Martin is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), having qualified in 2010 following a five-year articles programme at Ernst & Young in Harare — covering audit, assurance and IT security risk services, including SOX 404 engagements and cross-border methodology work.

From there, his career took him to the Channel Islands, where he worked in offshore fund accounting and, subsequently, as Senior Management Accountant for a London-based hedge fund and family office with entities across the Cayman Islands, Jersey, New York and Switzerland — executing multi-currency funding requirements and reporting for the group's parent and marketing entities.

He returned to Zimbabwe to take on increasingly senior operational roles — at Chidziva Tobacco Processors, Dulux, African Crops Limited in Zambia and Premium Leaf Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd, leading financial discipline and treasury management through periods of rapid growth.

Most recently, Geoff co-founded Atlas Agri (Pvt) Ltd, serving as Finance & Administration Director from 2022 to 2026. Atlas Agri grew into a major tobacco agribusiness employing 500 staff, contracting 10,000 small scale growers, and stewarding US$120m+ in secured trade finance facilities — with Geoff leading strategic planning, capital allocation, regulatory engagement and corporate infrastructure. This role concluded following a structured succession process, the business stabilised and operating at scale.

Chapungu Zimbabwe is the vehicle through which this depth of experience is now offered, independently, to clients who need an honest, logical, outsider's perspective and a capable pair of hands to get things done.

How We Work

The Chapungu approach.

Hands-on, not just advisory

The work is done, not delegated. Engagements are personally led.

Commercially grounded

Financial discipline is always in service of the business objective. The goal is never a perfect set of accounts; it's a business that operates with greater clarity and efficiency.

Scoped to fit the client

Engagements are structured for what is actually needed — a fixed-term project, a retained monthly relationship, or embedded operational leadership over a defined period. No unnecessary overhead, no retainer for the sake of it.

Built for volatile environments

Zimbabwe's macroeconomic environment demands a particular kind of financial leadership — one that anticipates, adapts and makes decisions quickly.

Trusted with sensitive transitions

Successions, restructurings, leadership gaps, capital raises — the moments when a business is most exposed are when bold and confidential leadership support matters most.

Independent, without agenda

As an independent practitioner, there is no product to sell, no firm to protect and no junior team to bill. Advice is given in the interests of the client — directly, honestly, and with the full weight of experience behind it.
